The one AI question every board should ask this quarter

Boards keep asking management for an AI strategy. It is the wrong question, and it reliably produces a deck rather than a change.

Ask this instead: which decisions in this business are already being made or shaped by a model, and who signed them off?

The answer is always longer than the executive team expects. Pricing. Credit. Triage. CV screening. Support routing. Content moderation. Half of it arrived inside a SaaS product nobody thought of as an AI purchase.

Once you have that list you have a real agenda: which of these are high-stakes, which are unmonitored, which would we be comfortable explaining to a regulator or a journalist.

Strategy is what you write after you know what you are already doing.
